Cannot open the external HDD locked by Bit Locker To Go  ><
I have a portable hard drive encrypted by bitlocker to go with password using win7 7100. i have two partitions and one of them is encrypted and the other is not. (i cannot remember very clearly but i think there was only one partition before i began to encrypted the drive and i shrinked the partition and add a new partition afterwards. both are in ntfs file system) i am currently using it on vista premium and the not encryptedpartition is working fine but after double click on the encrypted partition the OS would tell me to format it. in the disk management the encrypted partition can be seen as Bitlocker encrypted. and the win7 system doesn't exsit anymore. i have the password and the key. i heard that those encrypted drive can be viewed in vista or xp automatically using a reader, why i cannot do this? is there any possibility that i might lose the files? if i reinstall the win 7 ultimate system, will the hard drive working again?(i haven't tried this cuz i don't have a computer at the moment and i cannot find a computer with vista/win7 enterprise/ultimate.) Thanks.

Hi TAM89,Unfortunately, the BitLocker To Go Reader does NOT support the NTFS file system. Please consult this Microsoft document that discusses BitLocker To Go: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875532(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_bltogoIf the encrypted volume is formatted to FAT/FAT32/exFAT then the BitLocker To Go Reader will work.Best regards,Matt

Unfortunatly I have a drive 128gb which is encrypted using BitLocker on the realse version of windows 7. It is a fat drive. It can be mounted on my vista machine and after entering the password I can eventually see the contents of the drive. I can drill down through the directories. I can select a file or directory and right click to get a short menu - Copy Sent to folder, Send to desktopclicking any of these does nothing at all The window says drag and drop and that does nothing either. In Task manager BitLocker is not getting much CPU time but it does keep growing albeit very slowly.20 minutes later and I still don't have a file on my desktop. Now when I try to connect the disk to my original system the drive is not recognised any more.I guess this it ultimate security at its best. - I can't even recover my own files.Kev
